Convention Day 2

Convention Day 2  Saturday August 28th

Woke up early for the con.  It opens at 10am and we wanted to be there by 9am.  We cabbed it and made it at 8:40am.  We were still a good 20-30 ft from the entrance, still nice and close.  By 9am, the line was @ the end of the block. [I went for a timmies run, and the place was full of costumes, got back and Rachel/Daniel were there]  Good thing we got there early.  We rushed to the Stan Lee line when the doors opened and waited another hour. [Lots of waiting, but it was fun, just chilled out with Danny and Kit]

Kit and Stan "the man" Lee

Stan Lee came and blew through signings.  No personalized signatures, just bring it up, hand it to him, and walk away. [They had a hired goon to stand in front of Stan and keep the line moving]  Danny and I were so excited to get it.  The man truly is a legend.  The place got way too crowded by 1pm, so we ditched (having procured our sigs).  The escalator up [the ONLY escalator up to the dealer floor] stopped working, and they weren't letting anyone back in because it was too full. [Fire marshall said they hit capacity]  From there the day was a write off.
We ate at a place called Hero Burger, [awesome, right?] where we met Nita (who went shopping) and strolled around until 5-6pm.  We headed back to the now less-filled convention centre.  By this time we were all exhausted.  We chilled out, I bought more comics, and we went to see the Masquerade.  It was pretty painful to watch so me and Rachel left to go back to my aunts place. [Technical difficulties, and it was slow paced and a bit TOO nerdy/cheesy.]

[I ditched early in the show and went to an advertised comic shop sale, but the line there was ridiculous.  On my way back, I realized I was downtown on a saturday night, because everyone was dressed super nice and I was in a spider-man shirt with a VIP tag.  It was strange having such a clash of super nerds to cool clubber people]

Convention Day 1

[This is actually 3 days of logs that I did in 1 night after my last day at the con]
September 1st

It's been a really hectic weekend.  Definately spent a huge amount of my budget at the convention already.  My cousins and aunt have made sure I've had lots to do.

Convention Day 1  Friday August 27th
Left bright and early.  Kit and Danny stayed out late, it's kind of amazing he still wanted to drive.  Everyone passed out, so I tried my best to keep Kit awake with my music and a podcast. [Podcast was "Live! from a shoebox"]  Pretty easy ride up all things considered.  Nita's dad made us a pack lunch of costco chicken and bread/rice, but we stopped for fast food anyways.  Arby's was closed so it was McD's. [In Kingston... we were very heartbroken over the loss of an Arby's meal]  When we got to my aunts, she wasn't home.  We called and got instructions on getting in.  There was a girl sleeping on the couch that I thought was my cousin.  When I said "hi Cindy" I got a sleepy reply of "I'm not Cindy".  So weird that there was this random girl on the couch. [I didn't mention the super awkwardness of both the random girl and us wondering who the other was for a good half hour... Also it was Cindy's friend who stayed over]  We waited for my aunt to get home, hoping to get a ride.  We got subway tokens and directions instead.  Oh well.

When we got there, the line was ridiculous.  It stretched down the block and around to the bottom of a bridge overpass.  On top of this, we were late!  We stood in line for an hour and a half.  When we got in, I zero'd in on a book stack of trades [Trade paper back-->  Soft cover books] marked -40% US cover cost.  Poor Nita had to go off on her own as I sifted through. [I was standing there flipping through comics for HOURS, meanwhile Nita would check back periodically to see if I was done... I was not]  Most of that day was doing a tour and going through those trades.  We slept at the hotel on the floor in preparation for Stan Lee's autograph.

[Didn't mention that me and Nita went to a dance Jpop party at the con at around 8pm.  By then though, we were exhausted and it was WAY too high energy.  The DJ took songs, and crazy sped them up, it was like a crazy speed rave vibe, which neither of us were game for]
[I'll post these convention logs one at a time]

Hey everyone.

A lot of people have been asking me to post my travel journal, and to put some of my pictures up from my Cross Canada trip.  In response, I have created this blog, and will be posting my adventures.  It's rather boring and you don't really get a taste of the time line if you read them all at once (that, and I don't want to type it all at once), so I'm going to be posting a journal log every day-ish.  Hopefully I can follow through with this concurrently for the month I was gone, so it'll be like you were there with me (assuming you care enough to log on to read them).

The travel journal was actually all written down during the trip and I have the 2 books I used here with me.  Asides from a few spelling fixes and a log or two, It'll be pretty much verbatim.  Also, since I wrote it on the road late after the day was done, I couldn't elaborate too much on some key points, so I'll be putting my post-trip comments in [brackets and italics like this].

I don't know if I'll keep updating this blog after I'm done posting my trip journal, but maybe I'll use it to post a few neat things I find on the internet, or stick up some pictures of food that I make or get from a nice restaurant.  Anyways, enjoy!
